Acharya’s Call – Discourses of His Holiness Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal
Abhisheka to Paramasiva

Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swami GalSri Paramasiva carries on the top of His head the Gana and the Moon. The water of the Ganga is icy cold and the rays of the moon are also cool and soothing. On His hands and legs and around His neck are entwined snakes which are chill to the touch (seetalaangah). On His left side, or the left half of His body, is Parvati, Himagiriduhitaa, born of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, whose heart melts with motherly affection at the sufferings of humanity, who are all Her children. Dayaardra used in the verse means, aardra or being wet, with daya or compassion – the idea being that the sympathetic impulses flowing constantly from the heart of Parvati added to the cool . . Photos of Flood Relief by Vydic Foundation of India

flood2In early October, heavy rains in India caused levies to break, and many villages were under water. The village near the Vydic School of India was completely flooded.

The Vydic Foundation of India, which we support, provided food and shelter to the flood victims in the nearby village for several days. Click to view flood relief photos now.

Download the Chant of the Month
chant_2Please enjoy this chant of the month, Bilvastakam. The leaves of Bilwa (Aegle marmelos), which has multiple leaves, with each leaf consisting of three leaves, is very dear to Lord Shiva. Offering this leaf to Lord Shiva pleases him, especially on the Shivarathri. There are several stories how people gained salvation by offering one Bilwa leaf to Lord Shiva. November 2009 Vedic Astrology Gochara (Transits)
The following agricultural analogy can be useful in understanding how Jyotish works: “Properly understood, the bhavas [houses] are twelve fields with soil predisposed to growing specialized crops – categories of human experience. But Grahas [planetary bodies] are the farmers that plough the bhavas; the rashis [signs], the mulch that fertilize them.” (Hart Defouw – from Gochara-Phala Vicara Seminar)

Jyotish means best of lights (Jyoti means light), and is based on the fixed stars. This means that the planets and luminaries, etc. are calculated differently from Western Astrology. Thus there is a 24* difference in the calculations of the two astrologies. Please remember that each person will experience the transits according to his/her chart and Dasa (time) periods. In other words, if there is no connection in your chart by lagna (rising sign), Lagna lord, Dasa, or Dasa lord, with the grahas that are being described, it is not likely you will notice much with regard to that transit. If, however, there is a connection, then you might notice more. What you will notice, i.e. the quality is of your experience, will depend on who is affecting whom in your chart, and whether your chart is strong or weak in that area.

It is good to know where the Grahas are transiting through out the month, but it does take an expert to determine how that transit will affect a particular chart. If you know your rising sign, for instance, and where Surya (sun) and or Chandra (moon) are in your chart, then you can read the Gochara below, and see what you notice. It sometimes happens that when the Malefics (Graha’s that are known to bring mischief) are transiting sensitive places in our charts that difficult things can happen in ones life, but it isn’t necessarily so. So, the following analysis should be used with circumspection, and it is best to assume that if we are doing our best to support nature (i.e. not doing things that we know to be wrong), that the Laws of Nature in turn will support us.
Glossary of Terms.

Effects of Gochara by Lagna (rising sign) and Chandra (moon sign) for November:
Especially because these next few months of transits are going to be intense, it is good to emphasize the importance of not being fearful. For most of us, though we may experience some roughness, it is not going to be disastrous. If you find that you are very fearful, then check your routine, and make sure that you are getting enough rest, and eating well enough. This can really often be the best help

Mesha (Aries):For Mesha lagna, at the beginning of the month it is good to be careful of one’s health. Especially the chest area, and the knees. At the same time, until the well after the middle of the month, it is not the time to be taking physical risks (as in riding motorcycles, and taking up new extreme kinds of sports). At this time it could be easy to end up with injuries. In fact, this is a very good time to be taking care of yourself, and to be patient with yourself and others. It improves after the 14th of November, and again after the 16 of November. All is not lost.

Vrushaba (Taurus): This is the time to be very careful of advice and advisors. Listen, but be very wary of the agendas’ of others. It might seem that others know best, but at this time, that may not be the case. Taking risks is also not a good idea on any front, specially as judgment and discrimination is not strong at this time

Midhuna (Gemini):Money could be an issue at this time. As well partnerships are at risk, especially for women. Though things get less rough later in the month, it will be good not to take financial risks. This is a good time to practice kindness, no matter how you feel.

Karkataka (Cancer): Towards the middle of the month work should get easier, and health should improve. Early in the month, chest, heart and lungs could be an issue, though help comes before anything can get serious.

Simha (Leo): Stay rested and be gentle with yourself until after the 16th of the month. Finances may be slow, and it could be hard to find peace of mind. Not to worry, things improve after the middle of the month. Still, it will be good to be careful of the advice of others until the new year.

Kanya (Virgo): Do not allow yourself to get into negative moods and thoughts. This could be an issue right now, and nothing can be gained by submitting to this impulse. Money, and partnership also are at risk, so lay low until the middle of the month, and continue being cautious for several more months.

Tula (Libra):Seclusion is the name of the game right at the beginning of the month, and it could be due to health issues. Take care of yourself right through the middle of the month, especially the area of the chest, heart and lungs. As well the work place might be a bit rough. This is the time to be careful of ones anger and frustration level at home and in the workplace.

Vruschika (Scorpio):If you have issues with siblings, they may be exaggerated for a bit this month. Also finances might be a problem, and it will be important to stay rested as energy and possibly judgment could be less than what one really needs.

Dhanussu (Sagittarius): It may feel like you are working like a dog, and yet not much is happening. Finances could be slow, and you might feel as though it is hard to be comfortable in life. Do not despair, things get better in the middle of the month, and improve vastly in a couple of months. Yes, you will survive, and all will be well.

Makara (Capricorn): It all comes down to energy and courage at this time. However, there is some divine protection right now also, and soon you could be feeling like it is possible to creditably fulfill your desires.

Kumba (Aquarius): Seeing the flaws in ones partner might be the name of the game at this time. Being kind, and staying rested will go a long way to keeping this from becoming too much of an issue. Know that for the next while, ones career may be at risk, and money could be an issue. Change is the name of the game for you, so it is a good time to practice being light on ones feet so you can dodge the low flying objects.

Meena (Pisces): Fulfilling ones desires will be an issue for a while yet. It will be good to just be easy with yourself and others, especially at home. Be very conservative with business decisions, and cautious of the advice of others. This could be a time when you think that others know more, but that will not be the case for a long time to come. Watch out for flashy talkers; rather go for the deep ones if you can find them.
