Surya, the Sun God
Surya is one of the most important Vedic Gods. Surya means “the Supreme Light”. He is the chief Solar Deity and one of the prime Adityas. He is the son of Kasyapa Prajapati (One of the 4 main Prajapatis – created by the Lord Brahma for procreating the World as per Vedic literature) and his wife, Aditi (Divine Mother) and brother of Indra (King of Gods). Has two consorts – Suvarna Devi (also known as Usha) and Chaya Devi (Also known as Sandhya). He has two sons who are also very prominent and powerful – 1. Shani God (Planet Shani is one of the Navagraha) and Yama (God of Death). The term Surya also refers to the Sun, in general. Surya has golden hair and arms. He is extremely bright and radiant. The Sun God is always travelling in a Golden triumphal chariot harnessed by seven horses (are represented as Seven colors of the light) and his Charioteer’s name is Arun. He is said to drive through the heaven in which they represents as the seven colors of the rainbow or the seven chakras.
Chant of the Month – Aditya hridyam
Aditya hridyam is a hymn to the Sun god and forms part of the canto 107 of the Valmiki Ramayana. The setting is the battle field and the fight between Ravana and Lord Rama has just been suspended. Please Help the Vedic Students
According to the Vedic philosophy of Karma (action), whatever good or bad karma we do, will yield a similar result in our present life and future births to come.
Any good, prosperity or adverse things we come across in our life is the result of our own past actions or karma.
Therefore, please Sponsor a Vedic student and invest for your future karma. By sponsoring a student, you help one individual to learn and live well, and you also help preserve the most revered and upheld “Vedas.”
According to the most famous Sanskrit saying “Vedo Rakshati Rakshitah,” one who helps save Vedas, will be saved too (from calamities).
